The Garage Doors Are The Icing On The Cake

The much awaited garage door has been installed and really is the icing on the cake for the exterior of the house.

We picked out our 2 doors back in July and once the garage walls and floor were in we called the company (Gryphon Garage Doors) to come and do a final measure and quote for the doors. It was then a 5 week wait for the doors to be made, followed by a further week caused by the wrong door size being made.

So here's a bit of a look at the doors

Before

Now

Holy duly I still can't believe the changes we have made to this house! Sorry it gets me excited seeing the before and now wait until it's finished and you see the after!

So about the garage doors, the pelmet went on the week before last but when the installer went to put the door on he realised it was the wrong size (apparently the office girls put the wrong measurement into the computer) so it was left like that for a week until another door was made.

The pelmet wasn't installed flush against the ceiling either so we asked him to fix that as well which he did (after a little convincing!) when he came back to put the door on.

We picked a jarrah colour to match with the Jarrah Jungle theme of the home with the jarrah floorboards and sunrise windows to let in some light without the need to turn the fluro lights on during the day.

We also put an electric roller door in classic cream at the back of the garage, this area is the store room where we'll set up some benches as a bit of a man shed.

The roller door was installed without a problem, this is the view from inside the garage

This is the view from the back of the house (you can see the new brick extension and the old brick here - when we render the back of the house this will blend right in). Don't mind the pipe either the gutter guy has to come back to put in one more down pipe and this is what we came up with in the meantime so we don't get flooded!

The house feels a lot more secure now with the garage doors on and locked up which is good for my sleeping pattern - it was a bit touch and go there for a while when we had a tarp over the garage extension  we had some sleepless nights but feeling safe again now.

I'm sorry for all the garage posts lately but it has been such a big project starting with the Council taking 12 months to approve it and then 4 months for us to build it.

I'll shut up about it now that it's done!

  4. No, don't be sorry! I have loved reading every bit about the garage process! Did you have an internal door to lock between the house and garage?

  5. What a journey! I love the semi finished look you have going on at the moment. You're getting so close. Great garage door selection, perfect for your Jarrah Jungle home.

Who did you get to do your rendering? Someone local or a company? We are thinking about getting the front of the house rendered because there are a few spots in the garage where the mortar between the bricks has somehow eroded or something and is completely missing!

  10. It looks great! Funny you mention that they got the wrong size. Same thing happened with our new sectional door last year. Measurement was out by something like 2 metres!! They were just about to roll the old roller door off it's rails when they thought - hey lets just measure up first to make sure it all fits. Just as well they did because it was the wrong size! So they hooked the roller door back up and we had to wait for another 2 weeks, so 7 all up.

You should be SO proud of all your efforts because your house is looking amazing and SO different to how it looked when you bought it.
